Junior Brown almost doubled the away side's lead on 77 minutes, but his dash into the box and low effort went harmlessly wide. The visitors took the lead after 69 minutes following superb work down the left wing, before Tyler Roberts laid it back for Ladapo to guide the ball home. The Irishman laid it into the path of Holmes, who then set up Dawson for the shot, but the deflection took the sting off it and Leutwiler held at the second attempt. United created their next opportunity after 65 minutes following good work from Madden. Neither manager made any changes at the break, as the Iron looked to get a foothold in the game early on - without challenging Leutwiler in the Shrews net, however. The remainder of the half fizzled out without so much as a chance, as both sides struggled to create any real chances. Joe Riley let rip from 25-yards-out not long after the van Veen effort, but Daniels watched it go wide. In all fairness, the away side had settled into the game very well, and looked dangerous going forward in the first 30 minutes. The game became a midfield slog up until the 30-minute mark, when a neat touch from van Veen gave him the space to let rip, but his low effort went harmlessly wide. Despite a melee in the Shrews defence, no player in claret and blue could tap home.

The first major opportunity of the game fell to the Iron after five minutes, and it was the familiar format of a Josh Morris whipped free kick.
